Father's Day

We started out reading Laura Numeroff's If You Give a Dog a Donut.  I was thinking since Father's Day is fast approaching, we could do a fun project with this.   Here are our pics!

Our Father's Day inspiration!

This Book Companion is in my Teacher's Pay Teachers Store.  It's also in Spanish and comes in a colored version and a black and white version so your little one can color it!  I also created a version with  fill-in-the-blanks that includes a word bank so students can practice writing!

Baked Doughnuts Recipe
Donuts for Daddy

This donut recipe is easy to make and baked rather than fried! It cooks super fast, ours only took 10 minutes to finish baking!

Ingredients Used:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 egg
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 Tbsp butter(unsalted)
1 tsp vanilla

For the Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
4 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Lightly grease a doughnut pan and set aside.

Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and sugar together, set aside.

Step 3: Microwave butter for 30 seconds.  Once butter is melted, transfer it to a small bowl.  In the same small bowl, whisk together  the butter, egg, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.

Step 4: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until combined.  If dough seems to thick, try adding a tablespoon of milk.

Step 5: Fill each doughnut pan 3/4 full(not all the way like ours)!

Step 6: Bake for 10 minutes, let cool for another 10.

Step 7: While the donuts are cooling, whisk together the glaze ingredients in a small bowl.

Step 8: Dip your doughnuts in the glaze and set them on a piece of parchment paper.

Step 9: Decorate immediately, before the glaze hardens!  Don't forget to share with daddy, Happy Father's Day!
