Now that spring is here, I decided it was time to finally update my Insect Math & Literacy pack.  Click below to see more!

Butterfly Vocabulary!
Butterfly Vocabulary! I added 12 vocab cards to help us get started.  We laminated the butterfly vocabulary cards so we could trace the words with dry erase markers, erase, and trace again!  You could also use them to go with your Butterfly Life Cycle units!

Butterfly Booklet!

Butterfly Booklet! This Butterfly booklet now features all new font and clip art!  Over the past week we have had a blast filling out, coloring, cutting/pasting, and putting together our butterfly booklet

Butterfly Math Centers!

I have also added a butterfly ten frame game  and "My favorite insect" questionnaire activity to the Insect Math & Literacy pack.

We even  created an original book called If You Give an Insect an Ice Cream, inspired by the Laura Numeroff series. We also added our first pocket chart activity to the TPT store.  Check it out!  This counting activity goes along with the booklet below.  This is a great activity to work on number recognition! You can see this booklet in my TeachersPayTeachersStore.

For our latest theme, we have been focusing on butterflies.  Our butterfly felties are back!!

Since summer has officially started we made a few refreshing treats during our butterfly unit. First, we enjoyed a cool watermelon snack using our butterfly cookie cutter!  Then, we chose to make a frozen yogurt popsicle, the recipe is below, check it out!

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt Pops

Ingredients used:
Makes 4 pops
11/4 cup vanilla fat free yogurt
3 cups fresh strawberries
1/4 cup sugar

Step 1: Wash and slice fresh strawberries.

Step 2: In a blender, combine strawberries, yogurt, and sugar.

Step 3: Fill each mold about 3/4 full.

Step 4: Put the mold in the freezer and wait about 4 hours to enjoy!

Our second batch came out perfect(the first batch we had a difficult time waiting for the pops to freeze the entire 4 hours)

Butterfly Book!
Butterfly Book! Our read aloud this week consisted of a wonderful non-fiction book that goes into detail the stages a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly.

Butterfly Life Cycle Craft!

Butterfly Life Cycle Craft! After reading our butterfly non-fiction book, I wanted a hands-on activity that would illustrate the four stages of how a butterfly grows.

Foldable Cover Page

Foldable opens up to the first stage, a tiny egg laying on a leaf.
During the next stage, the caterpillar hatches from the egg.  Notice the caterpillar has been eating this leaf.
Here is the chrysalis folded over, representing the third stage.

Finally, the last stage, our butterfly emerges from the chrysalis!  To see more, click on the image  below.

CVC Activity!

CVC Activity!  To go along with our Butterfly Week, we went on an indoor butterfly"hunt."  First,  I wrote our CVC words onto the paper butterflies(dollar store).  Next, I scattered the butterflies around so my little one could "hunt" and gather them in this plastic bug catcher (target dollar bin).  Then, as we took out our butterflies, I folded over the beginning consonant letter so that we could practice sounding out the word .  Last, we opened the butterfly and practiced blending the CVC word(great for those busy hands that need something to do)
