Kissing Hand Activity and craft!

One of our favorite books for the first week of school is "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn.  This week I updated our Kissing Hand Unit.

In this story, Chester, is scared to go to school.  Since many little ones may be nervous on the first day of school, this is the perfect read aloud during the first week of school.

After reading "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn, have your students discuss their feelings on the first day of school.  We used our feelings flash cards to help us.

When we finished brainstorming, we made these cute hands and shared how we felt on the first day of school.

Here are some of the extension activities we did.

We sequenced the book and retold the story using our very own Chester puppets.

We ended our week by making homemade kissing hand cookies!

Classroom Library Update!

One of our main tasks we wanted to accomplish over the summer was to reorganize our classroom library.  Our library is expanding and what better way to get little ones excited about reading over the summer.

Seeing our new library has us feeling refreshed and inspired!  To hold the books I purchased these white bins from amazon.  To help our library stay organized,  and I created these editable classroom library labels.  Click here to see them.
